Zoya Abbas is a ceramic artist based in New York City, specializing in wheel-thrown decorative functional pottery. Their journey with clay began in 2009 through a subsidized afterschool art program, where early creations included imaginative volcanoes and flying saucers. Over time, their work evolved from these organic forms into functional objects like cups and bowls. A key motif in Zoya’s work is the dot, which started as a textural element and has gradually become a defining pattern, influenced by various techniques in pattern-making.

After a four-year hiatus, Zoya returned to throwing clay in 2023, and in 2024, they left their corporate career to pursue ceramics full-time. Today, Zoya teaches at several studios across New York and New Jersey, sharing their passion and inspiring a new generation of artists to explore the endless possibilities of ceramics. Through their teaching, Zoya strives to cultivate a sense of curiosity and love for the craft in their students.
